The Leprosy Mission Hospital, Purulia, 

Purulia Leprosy Home was established in the year 1888 as an asylum to shelter and care for the patients affected by leprosy. In course of time with the development in the medical field and invention of new drug Dapsone (DDS) which was introduced at the same time in Purulia leprosy home helped many patients to improve from their suffering ailments. Even then deformities caused by the disease remained as a continuing challenge for the doctors and patients. In the 1950’s Dr. Paul Brand introduced reconstructive surgery for the people affected by leprosy. Doctors, Nurses and Physiotherapists from Purulia were trained in reconstructive started in the year 1954.
 

The introduction of Multi drug therapy (MDT) in the 1982 paved the way in reducing the prevalence and in curing the diseases to a considerable extent.
Now, as a 120 bedded hospital with all modern facilities Purulia leprosy home and hospital commit itself to work towards the goal “A world with out Leprosy.”
