Today my Hand looks normal
I am Gita Rajwar, 25 years old married to Mr. Uttam Rajwar and have two children. I came to the Leprosy Mission Hospital, Purulia in 2011 with deformity in my right hand with which I would find difficult to work, even doing household work. On examination I was diagnosed with CLAW hand on my left hand.
I come from Sirkabad, a small village in Purulia District. I completed my MDT in 2004 from Government Hospital. Even after completing treatment I developed this deformity of the hand, which made me very depressed.
My husband is a daily manual laborer and takes care of the household work. My son named Daktar (12 yrs) and daughter named Jhunpuki (8 yrs) are both studying at the local school.
At the hospital I was told that my deformity could be corrected surgically. But I was worried about the expense of the surgery, the outcome and also the duration of the hospital stay as I had two children at home to take care. However I was assured that my surgery would be done free at the hospital and I would be able to use my hand again.
My surgery was done on 23rd January 2012. I was in the hospital for the next 2 months undergoing post operative physiotherapy. I was discharged in March 2012. After 3 months when I came for follow-up. Today my hand looks normal and I am able to use my hands for my daily work both outside and inside the home.
